I love seeing how artists interpret the comic. In the case of Polly Price, chef and founder of Polly’s Pantries she came up with a very cool idea- a Reynard City cake!
Polly has supplied a number of high profile clients with her range of pickles and preserves, as well as creating some very stylish sculpted cakes and puddings, such as this recent example on her Twitter feed.
Of course it is tricky to come up with a Reynard City cake that is a visual representation of the characters. Then Polly hit on a very interesting idea- one layer of the cake would represent Wondervixen, with another layer inside representing AK Girl.
When it comes to AK Girl and Wondervixen you have two distinct personalities- AK Girl is more outgoing and playful, while Wondervixen is a bit more reserved. Plus you have the visual style of AK Girl’s black and red costume and Wondervixen’s blue and white.
With this in mind, Polly formed the initial blue and white layer concept for the Wondervixen layer.
As the cake took shape, we got the concept of AK Girl’s layer not only being on the inside (black and red sponge with orange cream filling) but also outer decoration that suggested her personality almost literally bursting out!
And thus we had the final design, complete with edible paint, gold decoration and creative culinary flair!
