Matchups and crossovers are part of everyday culture now. Whether it’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe, guest stars in Smash Bros or the Simpsons meeting Family Guy, it’s always fun to see how different characters interact with each other. And seeing as it’s still #AKAugust, we wanted to go over a few that we would like to see!
With Smash Bros Ultimate coming up, as well as the likes of Hellboy and Ninja Turtles appearing in the DC themed Injustice 2, it is interesting to think what havoc AK Girl could have on fighting game universe crossovers. Her different modes could be special moves, such as a psychic wave attack or using a shield mode to deflect others (of course to keep things fair caramel would have to be a special item.)
The great thing with games like Soul Calibur is that you can create custom versions of characters (My personal favourite was Soul Calibur 3, when I created Reg T.Spoon, an aristocratic ninja with a monocle who spouted phrases like “My, that got a bit violent” and “Take good care of your health!”)
I won’t lie, I have created versions of my characters in those games, and it’s great fun. That being said, if someone wants to do a pic of Vibes entering Smash Bros that would be awesome!
One of the best crossovers I remember was getting Marvel v DC at the library. I was blown away by the fights with the likes of Storm and Wonder Woman facing off, and then to top it off we got Amalgam, where the Marvel and DC characters mixed together to form new, bizarre fusions (such as a mix of Batman and Wolverine).
With AK Girl, I don’t think she’d necessarily fight characters. I can imagine a buddy movie type romp with her and a more serious character like Wonder Woman or Black Canary, or maybe sharing quips and a milkshake with Spider-Man!
Then again, it is fun to imagine a couple of fights. For example I think Batman would find her difficult because she is unpredictable. Then again, he’s fought alongside Plastic Man and regularly tackles the Joker, so he’d probably have ways around that as well.
Of course, you have the Krypto cartoon version of Mammoth Mutt, and as you can see pictured here we have a fun idea for a story- a crystal causes the two to accidentally swap powers. Again, a lot of potential as the two deal with this bizarre situation!
Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic The Hedgehog was a big influence on me- not just the games, but also the comics and cartoons. It’s interesting the variety of stories- from the Looney Tunes zaniness of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog to the darker tone of Sonic Satam (as the second cartoon came to be know), all the way to the quirky fun of Sonic Boom.
I like to think Sonic and AK Girl would get on, competing in a friendly way. She could potentially rub Amy up the wrong way, and as this picture shows the paranoid jungle badger Sticks would be fearful of her psychic power (and ironically this time around she’s right!)
I would just like to say thank you to everyone involved, from the first time I saw the original Mega Drive game to Sonic Boom it has continued to influence me.
One thing that has developed that I love has been how some artists have incorporated AK Girl and the Reynard City team as part of their narrative. In the case of Kendall Collins‘ Life On The Tracks you have characters dressing up as the heroes, while Haymaker Studios has AK Girl and Wondervixen in a boxing match and GreyofPTA has various characters in an inflation support group (AK Girl can’t help dominating the conversation).
Tying in with the fighting game idea, I like the idea of an anthro fighting game featuring various independent characters like this, I think it could be fun!
What do you think?
